9 Reasons You Should Leave AC Repair to a Professional

Picture
There’s nothing worse than having your AC break down in the middle of summer. But even though you may be tempted to try fixing it yourself, it’s better to have a professional come out to fix it. Below are nine reasons to leave AC repairs to the professionals.

1. Warranty

There are some AC units that have warranties that are void if a certified technician’s isn’t the one who is servicing it. You don’t want to void your warranty by taking the chance that you can do something yourself. It can end up being very expensive.

2. Safety

Just like all of the things that are running on electricity, you may get a nasty shock if you aren’t sure what you’re doing. Most of the AC units will run on 220 to 240 volts. This amount can actually kill you. That’s not a chance that you want to take.

3. Complex Diagnostics

Air conditioning is very complex. There are a lot of parts in it. Chances are you aren’t going to know which of those many parts is the one that is causing the problem. Being able to diagnose your system will need training.

4. Garage Parts

Even if you knew what part isn’t working right, chances are that you don’t have that part that you’ll need for repairing it. You’re going to have to order those parts from an AC part supplier, and they’re not going to be there immediately. If you’re calling someone who is an expert in AC repair, a lot of times they’ll have the part you need with them.

5. Refrigerant Handling

It’s possible you’ve discovered that you are low on refrigerant and you’ve been able to buy the refrigerant you need. But being able to buy it isn’t enough. You can’t handle it unless you’re qualified and have the training. The CAA outlines the instructions for handling and maintaining refrigerant. Do you have the certification?

6. Much Quicker Than Expected

A lot of people believe that fixing their unit’s going to be faster since they think they’ll have to wait a long time for someone to come and fix it. But a lot of companies have multiple repairmen available 24/7. Trying to do it yourself isn’t going to save any time but it can increase your frustration.

7. Multiple Issues

The person that you hire to repair your AC isn’t going to help you with the problem and also check your system’s health. If you’re only fixing the one problem that you have by yourself, there’s a good chance that you’re going to have your system breaking down once again and you might have a bigger problem when it happens.

8. Experience

The technician is going to know what is happening in their industry and if there is an issue or recall. The technician will save you lots of money, energy and time if that’s the case.

9. YouTube is Not Certified

It’s required by the EPA that anyone who is handling refrigerant, such as repairing items that use it and getting rid of it, to have certification. It’s a lot harder to take care of your system than what you might think when you’re watching a video. Your system will connect to your ductwork, it’s electrical and has hazards to the environment. This isn’t something you should do when you have no experience.

When you have problems with your AC, you probably want to save money and try fixing it yourself. But it’s a better idea to have someone who is qualified to do it. Otherwise you could cause yourself more problems.
